Jared Crick Scouting report

DE Jared Crick 6'6 290 lbs

Size / Strength: 8 – Ideal size for either an interior 4-3 DT or 3-4 DE, Crick possesses great arm length to swat passes at the line of scrimmage and engage/disengage for run production. Good not elite upper body strength, much of his weaknesses are overshadowed by his height and length.

Speed: 7 - Above average speed and lateral ability to make tackles in flow/outside the box.  Very nice first step and has the speed to really get after the quarterback.

Production: 9 – With extremely high expectations following his breakout junior season sided next to Ndamakung Suh (Crick put up 70 tackles and 9 sacks), Crick lived up to projections and beyond. In his senior season, Crick finished with 63 tackles, 10 sacks, and even a forced fumble. Very productive in 2 years of extensive starting time.

Intangibles: 9 – Solid football intelligence, very adept at diagnosing screens, and overall strong play recognition. Extremely tough competitor who has stayed steadfast in his focus for success; did not overlook 2010 season to the draft, and refused to be affected by the draft hype he received. Really sounds like he has his head on straight.

Run / Pass Skills: 8 – Very much a complete d-tackle prospect in that he produces in both categories. Multiple pass rush moves, and is not limited because of his athleticism. Crick uses his hands very effectively and could develop into a dominant threat with increased bulk and strength.

Best fit: Grades out equally as a 4-3 DT as he does a 3-4 DE

X-Factor: How will his strength stack up against a very strong defensive line class who has DT Paea from Oregon state, who bench presses 225 lbs 44 times? Crick needs to convince scouts he has a strong work ethic, and can bulk up to improved strength. Crick needs a solid bowl season, combine, and pro day workout; a lot to ask for, however I feel Crick can shore up these concerns.

Where he will be picked: Late first round- Early second round. Crick possesses rare athleticism and length for a DT, and has received much notoriety from former teammate Suh, now with the Detroit Lions.

Where he should be picked: Between picks 20 and 32 in the 1st Round (Late first). Somebody will really get a bargain for Crick, as there are numerous elite D-lineman in this upcoming draft.

NFL Comparison: Jared Odrick, DE, Miami Dolphins
